Emsisoft Mamutu is an anti-malware solution that runs quietly in the background to detect and block viruses based on their behavior. Emsisoft Mamutu has a fast and hassle free installation procedure; just agree the terms and conditions and you are good to go. When you first start the application, you are presented with a security wizard that requires you to login to your account. New users can create a free account and try the software for 30 days. Upon successful login, the application will list the licenses associated with the user account. Select the license you want to use to activate Mamutu and click next. If you have a coupon code, you can convert it to fully functional license by clicking on the “Convert coupon code” link.
In the next step, you are asked to join Emsisoft Anti-Malware network (cloud network). This option is not mandatory but it is recommended that you do join this network to stay aware of alien threats. Other options include program module updates, additional languages and updates to beta version.
After program updates have been successfully completed, you will be asked to configure alert reduction settings. These settings are useful because many trusted applications generate suspicious behavior and create unnecessary alerts. Mamutu offers three types of alert reduction settings: Intelligent, Community Based and Paranoid Mode. Intelligent uses the inbuilt behavior technique analysis to reduce alerts. Community Based reduction technique is the most effective of the three, as it creates application rules based on the response of other Emsisoft users. Paranoid mode notifies user of all suspicious activities.
The last phase of the security wizard allows you to toggle auto start-up, behavioral guard and automatic update settings.
Emsisoft Mamutu uses a simple vertical tabbed interface. The interface is divided into the following sections: Security Status, Processes, Guard, Quarantine, Logs, and Settings.
Mamutu recognizes and reports the following types of behavior:
- Backdoor related behavior
- Spyware related behavior
- HiJacker related behavior
- Worm related behavior
- Dialer related behavior
- Keylogger related behavior
- Trojan Downloader related behavior
- Injection of code into other programs
- Manipulation of programs (patching)
- Invisible installations of software
- Invisible Rootkit processes
- Installation of services and drivers
- Creation of Autostart entries
- Manipulation of the Hosts file
- Changes of the browser settings
- Installation of debuggers on the system
- Simulated mouse and keyboard activity
- Direct disk sector access on hard disk
- Changes of the system group policies
Mamutu allows you to modify behavioral watch settings. You can turn off monitoring and protection of any of the above behavior if needed. These settings can be found under “Guard”. Here you can also set custom application rules. You can apply the following rules to installed applications:
- Monitor application, but allow specific activities
- Always block this application
- Exclude from protection

I have used Mamutu before on my home system, and it simply is not the kind of security software that utilizes a mass amount of resources; it it is a comprehensive and fully functional program that definitely protects your system. And, it it is a smaller than most program that utilizes a minimal amount of memory. It is a very clean, crisp and fast program in it’s functionality and in it’s operation as a behavior- blocker based program. It works very well also in conjunction with additional security suites and additional security programs; does not appear to cause any realtime conflicts or glitches with other programs I have used on my system. I like it much and would love to access a full license since I unfortunately lost my other one in a system crash some time ago; this one I will not lose!!!
