Facebook enhances security, offers free antivirus programs

Couple of days back, social networking giant Facebook partnered with the top five security companies Microsoft, McAfee, Trend Micro, Sophos and Symantec to launch the Antivirus Marketplace. According to Facebook, the main motive behind this move is to improve the security of Facebook users. The Antivirus Marketplace offer users with full version subscription of antivirus programs. However, the full version subscription is limited to six months.

Besides that, this move also improves Facebook’s own URL blacklisting system. Facebook’s blacklisting system is known to block spam and malicious URLs. Now the system is going to be further enhanced by incorporating malicious URL databases from the aforementioned security companies.

AV Programs available:

Norton Antivirus [Six Months]
Microsoft Security Essentials [Free]
McAfee Internet Security 2012 [Six Months]
Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition [Free]
Trend Micro Internet Security for PC and Mac [Six Months]

Please note that you will be able to download only one security program. Once you click the “Download Now” button, you will not be able to download any more programs from the AV marketplace.
