Out of the plethora of disk burning apps available for Windows, only a few stand out due to their features, easy usability and flexibility to work with different data types. Ashampoo Burning Studio is among one of the most highly rated burning suits that will allow you to burn your data on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray disks.
Burning Studio 2016 is a toned down edition of the premium line up and lacks some features which we will discuss later. The interface of the program is simple, with a sidebar with all the tools on the left and a working window on the right. The default theme can be changed by downloading additional themes, such as Star Wars and Back to Future 2016. The sidebar categorizes the tools under these labels: Burn, Create and Burn, Design and Print, and Miscellaneous. Each tool features a wizard driven pattern to guide users through the entire process.
Under burn, you will find tools that can burn new disks, create spanned disk (files that do not fit a single disk are split into several disks), create an auto-start disk with menus, and update existing disks that have not been finalized. You can also backup files and folders of your choice to optical disks, local storage, or portable USB storage. When you backup files, you will have the option to protect the backup with a password, apply compression and automatically split the archive at defined sizes. The backups are saved in Ashampoo’s proprietary ASHBAK format and a list is generated to help you during the restore process. During restoration, if you do not find your backup on that list, you can always browse for the backup file and complete the recovery.
Create and burn section lists the tools to create music CDs (WMA, MP3, or Audio), VCD, S-VCD, DVD and Blu-ray video disks. Moreover, you have the option to rip Audio CDs and save them in different formats. As previously mentioned, this is a special edition, and here you will be only able to burn DVD and Blu-ray video files that are already on your hard drive. You will not be able to author disks, as this feature is reserved for the premium edition.
Design and print allows you to create covers for DVD case, booklet, slim case, jewel case, Blu-ray case and optical disk. It includes paper formats that can be edited only after you have made a copy of the original. In case of disk covers, you also have the option to change the inner and outer diameter.
Additional tools are listed under Miscellaneous, here you will find tools to copy disk on the fly, create disk image, create image from local files, create bootable disk and burn saved images.
To conclude, Ashampoo Burning Studio combines feature rich tools in a small package, and does not ask for too much system resources. The premium edition of the same has a retail price of $59.99, if you can live without the premium features, you should try this edition, which is now available completely free of cost.
