MacX HD Video Converter Pro is a small but handy video conversion application whose primary purpose is to allow users convert SD, HD and 4K videos to DVD, Blu-ray, smartphones and media players compatible format. The app features a user-friendly interface and supports drag and drop. In addition to video files, there is support for adding URLs of popular video sharing sites. The video found on the URL is automatically downloaded by the app and converted to a format selected by the user. Some of the most popular video sharing sites compatible include, Vevo, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Facebook, Break and Metacafe. Complete list of supported sites can be found here.
The interface also has a dedicated button to add photos. However, only folders can be selected, manually selecting image files are not supported. The app automatically adds all the photos inside the selected folder and lists the output options to the user. Photos can be converted to slideshows in various formats including MP4, WMV, AVI and WebM. Background music can be added to slideshows, but transition effects are absent, so users are stuck with the default effect.
Adding video files also makes the output window dialog pop up, but this is only on addition of the first video file, subsequent additions are always set with output settings applied on the first video file. The program has a weird limitation when it comes to media sources, for instance, users cannot add photos and videos in the same session. If users decide to do so in the current session, the program warns and then removes the previous media source from the queue.
Videos can be converted to a wide range of formats; output codecs supported include X264, XVID, DIVX, MPEG4, VP8, HVC, MOV, WMV, 3GP, RM, ASF and MPG2. Users can select the output format of their choice and customize it or use preset profiles available for popular device manufacturers, including Apple (iPhone, iPad, and iPod), Microsoft (Xbox, Zune, Surface), Blackberry and Nokia, and Android devices from Samsung, Huawei, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and HTC. All the profiles comes with a quality control slider that determines the speed of the encoder. Moving the slider to HQ (high quality) results in better-compressed outputs, but slower encoding speed.
Straightforward editing features allows users to boost volume, crop, add subtitle, and trim the duration of the title. Hardware accelerated encoding is supported for Intel and NVidia based hardware.
