Microsoft has declared the termination of its blogging service Windows Live Spaces by march of the coming year. At the venue of the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, Dharmesh Mehta, director of Windows Live Product Management, announced the collaboration of Microsoft with Automattic the parent company of the popular blogging platform WordPress , so that all Live Space users can migrate to WordPress.com.
About a 30 million bloggers on Live Spaces must migrate their blogs and blog contents to wordpress.com, which powers 8.5 % of all websites on the web. Spaces bloggers have the option to migrate to WordPress now or recreate their blog on some other blogging environment or they can download their blog content on their PC and load them into their new WordPress account at any other time in the future. A six months deadline has been set for Live users for the migration before Microsoft shuts down Spaces.
Windows Live and WordPress.com have provided a simple way to move all blog posts, comments, and integrated photos to WordPress.com. All old Spaces URLs will also be redirected to the new blog, so that the bloggers do not lose any visitors. All these features have been incorporated so that the bloggers do not face any problem in the migration and experience the new features of the WordPress at the same time.
